Amaz{\^o}nia. A metodologia aplicada baseou-se na
integra{\c{c}}{\~a}o de imagens
Landsat-7/ETM\$\smallString{+}\$ e MDE-SRTM por meio de
An{\'a}lise Orientada a Objeto (AOO), bem como no levantamento
digitais.
florestais.
interfl{\'u}vio Purus-Madeira. Estas caracter{\'{\i}}sticas
segmentos, correspondentes {\`a}s classes Savana e Floresta
baixa, ocorrem sobre paleomorfologias fluviais, principalmente
paleocanais.
sistemas tribut{\'a}rios do interfl{\'u}vio Purus-Madeira
norte/noroeste durante o final do Quatern{\'a}rio em
fun{\c{c}}{\~a}o de reativa{\c{c}}{\~o}es tect{\^o}nicas. As
paleomorfologias fluviais aqui descritas registram
per{\'{\i}}odos em que os canais ainda flu{\'{\i}}am para o
rio Madeira.
flutua{\c{c}}{\~o}es clim{\'a}ticas. ABSTRACT: The geological
history of Amazonian fluvial systems throughout the latest
Quaternary can be reconstructed, partially, through the analysis
of fluvial paleomorphologies that are still preserved in the
landscape. Mapping these features in large Amazonian areas can
help their characterization. Recent studies have demonstrated a
direct relationship between paleomorphologies and vegetation
contrasts for Amazonian areas. The development of methodologies
that aid the classification of vegetation patterns in remote
sensing data is of great interest for regional studies demanding
paleomorphologic mapping. The aim of this work was to use remote
sensing data and techniques in order to enhance the detection and
classification of vegetation and topographic contrasts as a
surrogate for paleomorphologic mapping in the Madeira-Purus
interfluve, southwest Amazonia. The applied methodology was based
in the integration of Landsat-7/ETM\$\smallString{+}\$ images
and SRTM-DEM using Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA) techniques,
as well as in field topographic survey in order to control the
effect of vegetation canopy height in the SRTM-DEM products. The
integration of remote sensing data resulted in a significant
increase in the number and precision of classified vegetation
segments, including subtle vegetation contrasts in forested areas.
Analysis of the classified segments showed that they are spatially
distributed as elongated strings, with slightly sinuous geometry,
of regular dimensions, which configure a dendritic network.
Additionally, these segments have a main trend parallel to the
direction of the main river systems in the study area. These
characteristics lead to the conclusion that vegetation patterns
corresponding to Savana and Low forest classes occur over fluvial
paleomorphologies, especially paleochannels. Based on this study,
it is suggested that the main tributary systems of the
Madeira-Purus interfluve experienced flow inversion, from
south/southeast to north/northwest, during the latest Quaternary
due to tectonic reactivations. The fluvial paleomorphologies
described herein document earlier times when these channels were
still flowing toward the Madeira River. The confinement of areas
of savanna vegetation to paleochannel segments constitutes a
strong argument that the occurrence of this vegetation type in the
study area was determined by sedimentary processes related to
fluvial dynamics rather than to influence of climatic fluctuations
as suggested earlier in the literature.",
